Meet Marnix, grower of sunflowers in summer time, and tulips in winter time.
He has 50 hectares of Helianthus, producing 3 million stems a year.
Every year the Helianthus grows on different fields, rotating with other crops like potatoes and wheat.
This rotation is done to keep the flowers and the soil healthy and strong.
He sows every week, during 15 weeks.
It takes a maximum of 100 days to grow the sunflowers from seed.
Did you know that Sunflowers open for the first time during the night, so the harvesting is done in the morning.
The length is 60 cm.
The bottom leaves are removed by hand, while harvesting the flowers. When the leaves are removed, the flower opens better.
Helianthus heads turn towards the sun: both on the field and in the vase.
Guess how many sunflowers Lex carries.
